You know Bill; a classic Kirby Torch would be a great companion piece to this :)

Dear people who draw the Thing BADLY at Marvel comics (I'm looking at you, Mark Bagley, among many others). Please print out this picture and post it in a conspicuous place above your drawing board. Please note that A) the Thing does NOT have visible human teeth, and B) The Thing is not an orange Hulk with lines all over. His anatomy is distinctly non-human and blocky.

Bill, thank you for evoking the spirit of the King in such an awesome manner :)

It was terrific fun after I figured out how to handle his blocky shapes and shadow.

The Thing is my all time favorite comic character and this is exactly how he should be represented. Great job.

Thanks, and I agree that I only see him in my head the way Kirby drew him. :-)

Absolutely wonderful piece, Bill. Makes me all warm with memories of the old school FF. Most definitely a favorite.

We have a book called waterfall of the UP.
But one of the best was a
3 page ditto copy gotten from the Silvna national forest center in watermeets. It had a lot of
remote ones.
Whats the name of the one you use?

I don't have it at home here. It's in Michigan, but I'm pretty positive it's this one-

I thought U.P. was in the title, but I guess not.

Thanks. It if wasn't for the commission I don't know if I'd have ever drawn the Thing. I always saw him as a difficult/complicated character to draw.

His work on the Thing is incredible, it is very difficult to see artists who develop a good result on top of this character.
nice

I didn't really try and do my own 'thing' so much as go Kirby style.

One of these days I'll have to try and do my own take.

Hah! That's funny! I never thought of it as a unibrow. Now I won't be able to get it out of my head.
