Future City Collage by BillReinhold Future City Collage by BillReinhold
Back in 2010 when I was drawing Magnus Robot Fighter I was working on pages with large cityscapes so I put together in Photoshop a rough collage of both photography and sci-fi illustration that I like in order to experiment with depth and scale of a multi-level city.

I never used this design literally but it helped my thought process.

Easy to have fun with something like that. Helped me understand a little about all the use of photography in digital art these days.

Thanks! Though not finished like your work. Was only meant to inspire ideas for me. Would have been a lot more hours to look like a completed work.

I like it. Reminds me of The Fifth Element and Metropolis.

Yes, Metropolis is of course the source that influenced so much more afterwards.
Jean Giraud (Moebius) has done very influential work like this and along with and Jean-Claude Mézières they both did design work on The Fifth Element.
Then of course there is also Roy Krenkel and Al Williamson.

The idea is that the lower class old city is in the low levels and the higher in the high buildings.

Yeah does take patience, though I did keep from it being some sort of finished piece. Looks best from far away :-)

New Metropolis :)

I dig it!
Reminds me of when Kirby would do collage work.

I thought the same thing. Imagine if Kirby had gotten his hands on Photoshop.
